Did you know that burnt wood can be used to create some gorgeous pieces of furniture for your home?
Last year we spotted an ad where someone had 20-foot beams for sale. We decided to take a drive a see if they were something we could work with!
Because the pieces were so long, the seller offered to cut them in half so we could bring them home in our truck. As you can see from the photo, even cut in half, we had to tie them in and put the tailgate down to get them home! When we unloaded them, we realized we had a really supply for some upcoming furniture pieces we were making!
BURNING WOOD TO GIVE IT A “KENT MADE THIS!” LOOK
Kent had been experimenting with burning wood on a few of his smaller projects as our whole team loved the look his was coming up with. This haul of wood helped Kent to decide it was time to try this technique to a whole new level!
The wood pieces were a bit too wide for the matching tables he was making. This meant he had to rip the pieces down to size. Next up, he used a tiger torch to burn the wood. Because of the intense heat, all of the wood was burnt on one side then left for a few days. Once all 4 sides were burned, each piece was sanded to remove the top layer of the burnt wood. Once the pieces were all sanded, they had to be wiped down with wet cloths to remove the soot.
THE FINAL PIECES IN PLACE!
Both tables were oil and after a couple of days, they were ready to be delivered and put in place at their new home. We think they look pretty amazing!
