When working on major construction sites, sometimes a mistake in ordering from the head office can result in the crew being able to take home wood for their own projects! A few years ago, Kent and some of his co-workers were fortunate enough to each take home some gorgeous pieces of solid fir.
ONE OF HIS FAVORITE PIECES MADE TO DATE!
Repurposing wood is a wonderful way to create unique pieces for clients so, during his spare time, Kent decided to use some of the wood he had been holding on to, to create one of his favorite pieces he has made to date!
Getting pieces like this ready to be used for furniture is a big job. The pieces were extremely heavy and the wood was quite raw so each piece had to be laid out on the ground to be sanded. To get them to a stage where there were nice a smooth and he could really see the gorgeous lines of the wood meant several hours of sanding each piece.
Next, the edges were hand-chiseled to round them off a bit and give them a more natural look. Then, several coats of oil were added to each of the pieces giving them a gorgeous tone.
A PERFECT PIECE FOR A CABIN
One of the pieces was cut in half and used to create a base so the table appears to float off the ground. The pieces were then subtly joined together to give the impression they were simply lying next to each other on the base. The top side of the table featured some beautiful knots, cracks in the wood and the ends featured the annual growth lines…gorgeous!
We think the colors, the smooth feel of each piece, and the raw natural look of the wood make this table the perfect piece for a weekend getaway cabin!
